Omø has everything a yachting family can dream of when it comes to harbour amenities and idyllic island experiences. You will berth in the cosy village of Kirkehavn on the northwest coast of Omø, in the middle of the small fishing and yachting harbour.

Modern harbour amenities

In the summer of 2016, Omø Marina opened a newly-renovated marina with new jetties, steps to the sea, new bathrooms and shower facilities and a nice new sailor’s lounge. In 2017, Omø was named Marina of the Year by the major Danish association of amateur yachtsmen, Danske Tursejlere.

At the entrance, you will come upon a beautiful flood wall, exquisitely crafted. It works as a dike in case of stormy weather from the Great Belt, but also works as a balance bridge for children, a nice seat with a view or a place for a well-earned rest on a hike.

Bathrooms and showers are located by the harbour master’s office and in the marina service building. If you stay for 4 nights in a row, the last night is free of charge – this applies to the marinas Skælskør, Omø and Agersø.

Maritime atmosphere and fresh fish

Omø Marina is both a yachting and a fishing harbour with about a dozen resident fishing cutters. Enjoy fresh fish from the marina store at one of the snug barbecue spots. You will be sitting right by the extensive playground with volleyball court, large sandbox, nice climbing obstacles, rope swing and hammocks for a quick nap. And if it gets too hot in the sun, you can dive into the fresh sea water at the excellent sandy beach by the marina.

Jump onto a bicycle

The bicycles at the harbour master’s office are at your disposal, and the size of the island enables you to see a lot on just one ride. Omø is a mere 2 km (1.2 miles) wide, but well worth a trip. You will ride along charming highways that twist and turn through idyllic villages with half-timbered houses, and everywhere you will have a sea view. To the west to the Great Belt and the Great Belt Bridge, to the north to Omø Sound, and on the other sides to the waters of Smålandsfarvandet.

A brisk bicycle ride of just a couple of kilometres (1.2 miles) will bring you to Omø’s beautiful lighthouse on the western tip of the island. With its characteristic yellow paint and a height of 22 metres (72 ft.), it catches the eye of everyone entering the marina.

Omø’s highest point

Skovbanken – “the Forest Hill” – at 24 metres (78 ft.) above sea level is the highest point on Omø. From here, you can enjoy the view across Omø with the marina, the church, the village, the lighthouse and the lovely sandy beaches. You can also spot the plentiful bird and plant life on the island.

Village idyll in Kirkehavn

The marina is located by the village Kirkehavn – literally “The church harbour” – that has several well-preserved old houses. Omø village is located in the centre of the island, it is a well-preserved village with half-timbered houses, village gardens, idyllic village pond, grocery store and café.

Bringing your tent?

There is a campsite at the marina area. The harbour master will assign you a spot.
